GENDER RELATED RELATIONSHIP AMONG BODY MASS INDEX, WAIST AND HIP CIRCUMFERENCE, LOW BACK PAIN, AND TRUNK MUSCLES ISOMETRIC ENDURANCE

DONATA JOCIENĖ

Keywords: back pain, body mass index, waist-hip circumference, McGill pain questionaire, Oswestry disability index.

The subject of research: body mass index, waist-hip circumference and back pain of patients.

Problem of research. Obesity and low back pain (LBP) are common health problems nowadays. Scientists are discussing the theory of low back pain induced by obesity (Guo et al., 2008).

Hypothesis. Low back pain manifestation is more induced by too high body mass, waist and hip circumference.

Object of research: to determine relationship among body mass index, waist and hip circumference and low back pain.

Aims of research:

  1. To determine gender related back pain intensity and disability level of patients.
  2. To determine relationship between body mass index, waist-hip ratio and back pain.
  3. To determine relationship among trunk muscles isometric endurance and body mass index.
  4. To determine relationship among trunk muscles isometric endurance and back pain.

Methodics. 86 subject partisipated in the study, 56 of them with low back pain. Invertigation was carried out in Siauliai rehabilitation center. Body mass index, waist−hip circumference, waist−hip ratio and isometric endurance of trunk muscles were determined, McGill pain questionaire and Oswestry disability index were used.

Conclusions:

  1. There was no relationship between gender-related back pain, but disability level of women was higher to compare to men (p<0,001).
  2. There was no significant relationship between gender-related body mass index and back pain. Waist circumference of women with back pain was bigger (p<0,001) to compere to women without pain. Waist−hip ratio in both genders with back pain was higher to compare to patients without pain (p<0,05).
  3. There was no significant relationship between isometric endurance of trunk muscles and body mass index.
  4. Isometric endurance of trunk muscles in patients with back pain was worse to compare to without pain (p<0,001).

LINKS AMONG PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, MENTAL HEALTH AND ANTHROPOMETRIC DATA APPLYING PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

DONATA RIBIKAUSKAITĖ

In this particular work, physical activity, mental health and anthropometric data of women with overweight have been investigated by means of theoretical analysis.

It allowed us to raise an hypothesis that application of physical education programs will decrease both, overweight and anthropometric measurements. In addition to this, applicable physical activity will improve life quality, mental health as well as anthropometric data of the affected women.

At the first part of the research, a survey has been performed. Using the method of questionnaire, a research has been carried out. Its major goal was to investigate physical activity and mental health of overweight women at the beginning of the research, just before starting to apply the anticipated program.

At the second stage of the research, a group of attendees have been organized. The data of questionnaires, anthropometry and body composition were analyzed. Additional (repetitive) questionnaires were carried out after the research. Statistical data analysis has been performed.

In the empirical part of the work, the connection between physical activity and anthropometry has been investigated.

The most important conclusions of the empirical research would be as follows:

1. The research revealed that by applying physical education program, body mass index of women with overweight has decreased.

2. Applying physical education program, life quality, as well as mental health of overweight women, improved.

3. Comparing physical activity of the overweight women before and after the research, it was identified that their physical activity has considerably increased. As a consequence, their mental health, as well as overall life quality, were improved.

Aušra Spingytė, PhD Rima Jasnauskaitė

The article deals with the issue of teaching-learning new Eglish vocabulary for and by pupils of the school of general education. Pupils’ first encounter with a new word is very important as a new word must be properly presented and explained. It is very important for every foreign language teacher to use a variety of teaching methods and techniques that help pupils to learn as many words, develop ways of thinking, speaking and communication skills. Typically, vocabulary training begins with the presentation of the new word, demonstration and interpretation. In the school of general education, various methods can be used for both junior and senior pupils. It is important to determine which methods and tools can make it easier to memorize English words, to reveal the meaning of the words and help pupils use them in communication. This article answers the problem question what are the ways of teaching techniques applied by English teachers and the ways of learning new English vocabulary by pupils of different age groups at school and at home. The theoretical part of the article deals with the spectrum of ways of English vocabulary teaching-learning. The study applied quantitative research method: written survey questionnaire and the statistical analysis of the data. The study included 140 pupils in the 5th -12th form. Results of the study revealed a trend that younger pupils remember new English words easier. The easiest way to remember the meaning of new English words for both junior and senior pupils is video and audio recordings. In addition, both studied groups chose games, dialogues and informal tests as the best ways for drilling and testing new English vocabulary. Learning new English words in the classroom and at home is different – at home, students repeat new English vocabulary only occasionally, but usually repeats both pronunciation and spelling. The largest part of new English vocabulary learning process takes place in school. The main learning tools used at home are computer, Internet access and a work desk.

VAIDA GALVANAUSKAITĖ

The analysis of the physiological changes in women  postpartum period, anthropometric data and posture disorders improvement theoretical analysis was performed in this research.

A hypothesis was put forward that systemic exercises with kinezitherapic balls has a positive impact on women anthropometric data ant posture after giving birth.

The experiment has been done, consisting of three groups – two experimental groups and one control group. BMI and the total body fat mass, body size, fat wrinkles and posture change indices were analyzed before the study, in the middle and after the study. Statistical analysis of the data was performed (statistically reliable connections and averages were analyzed.).

The empirical part examines subjects (women given birth), body size, body mass index, total body fat mass, fat wrinkles, and posture interfaces by applying exercises with kinezitherapic balls.

The main conclusions of the study:

  1. Most of the women in the study don’t know that pregnancy can cause incorrect posture; however they all take certain measures to improve their health – except walking.
  2. It was found that anthropometric indicators and posture of women given birth has statistically reliable connections with applicable exercises using kinezitherapic balls.
  3. A reduction of body size and weight can be achieved by using kinezitherapic balls, and as a result, BMI and posture can be improved.

Key words: parous women, anthropometric data, posture, exercise with kinezitherapic balls.

Recommendations – in order to better research results, its is recommended for women pospartum period to increase number of exercises with kinezitherapic balls (depending on the physical capacity) and reduce the time between performed exercises.
